Sherwood Forest Camp Masterplan

Lesterville, Missouri (2007)

Started in the early 1900’s, Sherwood Forest Camp is committed to serving disadvantaged children in the St. Louis area.  Located on 487 acres in the scenic Ozarks, they offer Summer Camp for 7 through 16-year old boys and girls, including a nationally recognized Leadership Training Program for adolescents.  During the school year the camp is used for Outdoor Education Programs for school districts and Family Camps addressing the needs of distressed families referred through local social agencies.

Powers Bowersox Associates and its consultants were retained to assess conditions of Sherwood Forest Camp facilities and site infrastructure and make capital improvement recommendations that will position them to grow and meet program goals identified in their strategic plan. The recommendations include a new sleeping cabins known as a camp village, improvements and expansion to existing villages, a new multi-purpose dining hall, new program support facilities, renovation of all existing facilities and site infrastructure improvements.

The master plan was adopted by the Sherwood Forest Board who have begun a capital campaign that will implement capital improvements identified in the plan, as well as increasing their endowment fund.  The documentation and formatting of the master plan is tailored to meet their campaign fund raising strategy.
